Centaurus 04:15
Devil’s pool The water flows deep and cool Before it’s mined Let’s leave all this far behind Wollomombi waterfall There’ll be nothing left at all I’m gunna miss this place There’s no use denyin’ I look out into space And imagine flyin’ M-type red dwarf for a star 4 light years is not too far Leaving for Centaurus There must be something for us Bluebells bloom Karijini’s future looms Climate war In the name of Gina’s ore Wollomombi waterfall There’ll be nothing left at all Leaving for Centaurus There must be something for us

The ebbs and flows, a pull a push, oh they can be a drain But I am not the one to complain Picking up and putting down the losses and gains My fortune it comes and goes Waxes and wanes Some ground lost and some ground gained Passion, love cannot be feigned Luck or charm are hard to explain My fortune waxes and wanes Taurean with certain traits my victories they vacillate But I tend to rely upon my brain Blessings seem to undulate, but I stay in my lane My fortune it comes and goes Waxes and wanes Some ground lost and some ground gained Passion, love cannot be feigned Luck or charm are hard to explain My fortune waxes and wanes Some ground lost and some ground gained Passion and love cannot be feigned Luck or charm are hard to explain My fortune waxes and wanes

Alive 04:31
Under the stars, near the plain of jars The earth nurses it’s old bombing scars And although they’re tired a motley trio ride Winding through the hills they weave ‘n glide An old school map, an unmarked track Unprepared there was no turning back Injuries soon grew For the foolish few Wondering what they had got into Darkness now fallen Strange birds were callin’ Cliffs fell away to creek swollen Land mines missed Bridges crossed Realisation that they were lost He’s alive he’s alive go on run now he’ll survive he’s ignited something showing no misgiving He’s alive he’s alive come and give me a high five sit around because the story’s worth reliving

The barriers are down The horse finally bolted I’m so far out front You cannot stop me Service modules have finally fallen away Command stage is rightly here to stay You’ve come to recognise You can’t stop me I know, I know, I know, I know You can’t stop me Acceleration now Is unparalleled I’ve left the rest for dust You cannot stop me Remoras have finally fallen away Pushin’ through Mach One all in a day You’ve come to realize You can’t stop me I know, I know, I know, I know You can’t stop me I know You can’t stop me I know, I know, I know, I know You can’t stop me Service modules have finally fallen away Command stage is here I see, as far as the eye can see I know you got nothing on me You can’t stop me I know, I know, I know, I know You can’t stop me I know You can’t stop me I know, I know, I know, I know You can’t stop me From the good, the bad and the ugly You can’t stop me

Yeah my love And the days roll by Yeah sweet one Oh deny away Yeah same shit different day

Tragic 04:43
Standing here alone with the common people Listening to your foreign song Sailing into strong wind and dangerous weather You’re alone in the path you’re on Sink into the floor using desperate measures Poor folks are unleashed upon To save you from yourself is a futile process Who knows what planet you are on Look at me now! Do you like what you see? I’ve got something to say And it’s yours for free Life is very simple when you’re tragic Help me recreate the simple magic Waking here alone is so often foetal Sleeping in black boots again Quantity consumed was so close to lethal Codeine is a loyal friend Memory returns with uncanny detail Finger pointing square in eye Monkey on your back pushing for a derail Enjoy living with that lie Look at me now! Do you like what you see? I’ve got something to say And it’s yours for free Life is very simple when you’re tragic Help me recreate the simple magic Look at me now! Do you like what you see? I’ve got something to say And it’s yours for free Life is very simple when you’re tragic Help me recreate the simple magic I am tragic x 4

Easy 04:23
Began as apparition And moved across the floor The band started playing Cold breeze flowed through the door So this is how it started And this is how it came to be The yearning was over If I could only see Easy to forget what you want Harder to forget what you need Easy to forget what you want Harder to forget what you need And the drinks start flowing Time is slipping away Yeah the floor starts shakin’ And night turns into day And the band is rockin The bass is so, so loud And my ears are ringin’ The stars are out Easy to forget what you want Harder to forget what you need Easy to forget what you want Harder to forget what you need

Necessity is the mother of invention, yeah Length of pursuit gives the size and dimension, fair? Bitterness never goes away Love and confusion a master illusion yeah Dollar an answer and I’d be a millionaire Bitterness never goes Sweet doesn’t overflow Necessity is the mother of invention yeah Stuff and position they won’t be my mission yeah Nerves are decade hey, so breathe in the morning air Bitterness never goes, sweet doesn’t overflow Lovin and dreamin’ a new deeper meaning yeah Lovin and dreamin’ a new deeper meaning yeah Bitternes never goes Sweet doesn’t overflow Necessity is the mother of invention yeah

Just Steady 06:12
You played hard and died alone A vision as I looked inside me A fear of the great unknown Enlightened, the path is shown Oooooh, Aaaaah You made me meander gently Awakened as the dreams frightened me Reaction and transformation Addiction appreciation And you were Just steady, moonlight to sundown And you are Just steady, moonlight to sundown Always be Just steady, moonlight to sundown In my heart Just steady, moonlight to sundown Here I am Just steady, moonlight to sundown And you’re there Just steady, moonlight to sundown Evermore Just steady, moonlight to sundown So unfair Just steady, moonlight to sundown But to me Just steady, moonlight to sundown In my world Just steady, moonlight to sundown There was one Just steady, moonlight to sundown Now a hole Just steady, moonlight to sundown Here I am Just steady, moonlight to sundown And you’re there Just steady, moonlight to sundown Always be Just steady, moonlight to sundown So unfair Just steady, moonlight to sundown Wo o o o baby why’d you live so long Wo o o o baby why’d you live so, Going try an’ fade out Leap before you’re pushed off Baby why’d you live so long

about

Each of the tracks on the album Centuarus was written collaboratively by Steve and Ashley, or by Steve solo – and they were brought to life by the musicianship of each of the band members. Co-founder and former member Mal Pinkerton trades guitar riffs with Ash on 6 of the tracks.

“Centaurus”, the opening and title track, is about Australia’s submission to the mining industry, anthropogenic climate change, disregard for our planet and daydreaming of finding a better place. Centaurus is our closest galaxy and therefore our closest option! The song began with a Zeppelin inspired drum beat with synchronising guitar riff and bass line, but the psychedelic verse adds another layer of complexity – while the chorus is in Cheap Trick/Weezer style power pop

Other musical contributions came from the brilliant classical guitarist Slava Grigoryan who plays the intro on “Mother of Invention”, and Tony Gould AM who is one of Australia’s most acclaimed jazz musicians (and previously Professor of Music at Monash Uni) who plays piano on “Mother of Invention” and “Just Steady”. Additionally, Jane Pinkerton (sister of Steve & Mal) who has spent many years with the Australian Opera contributes soprano vocals on “Just Steady”. Shane Reilly (Lost Ragas, Tex Perkins, Beck) adds some great pedal steel to “Mother of Invention”.

The album was partly recorded with Wayne Connolly at Head Gap Studios and mixed at Albert Studios while the remainder was recorded and mixed by Steve at his home studio.
